Lent

mardi gras

Lent (English)
Lent comes from the Latin Quadragesima (dies) forty (days). Originally, Lent began on Sunday, the 40th day before Holy Thursday. Pope Gregory the Great has advanced at the beginning of Lent preceding Wednesday: Lent begins on Ash Wednesday now and ends on Holy Saturday. This corresponds to a period of 40 days of fasting but Sundays are not fasted.
Why 40 days? because the Bible tells us that Jesus of Nazareth withdrew into the desert to fast for 40 days, in the midst of wild beasts, served by angels and tempted by the devil …

Shrove Thusday (English)

Today, fasting is not practiced and is essentially limited to Good Friday.

Carnival comes from the medieval Latin carne levare: remove the meat (food). Meat designating the fat you eat the fat days (used to be called as the days carnal). This term refers to the closing ceremonies the last days before Lent.

Today, fasting is not practiced and is essentially limited to Good Friday, the day during which Catholics abstain from eating meat.

Before fasting, it is good to vent! And seven days a week to 40 days before fat lean Lent! Shrove Tuesday is the last day of fat, which is celebrated with more sparkle! Fasting and abstinence then opposes the carnival.

Today, we have kept the best (carnival) and forgot the worst (Lent).

St. Valentine's Day

今日はSt. Valentine's Dayですね。

Change of the season

 3rd.

【鬼は外、福は内】out with the demons, in with happiness!
When we scatter the beans, we shout , ''fuku wa uchi, oni wa soto!!'', or''out with the demons, in with happiness!!''. By scattering beans, we drive out demons and draw in happiness. ''Oni'' symbolizes misfortune. We have a custom that after beans were scattered, we eat as many beans as our age to wish for good health.
