重陽の節句

9/9の今日は重陽の節句。５節句の最後の節句です。実はあまりに馴染みがありません。重陽の節句とは何なんでしょうか？　　　　　　　　
陰暦の9月9日は『重陽の節句』あるいは『菊の節句』『重九の節句』と言われています。古来、中国では奇数を陽数（縁起のよい数）としていたことから、陽数の最大値である九が重なるということで『重陽』と呼ばれています。
この中国での風習を取り入れて、江戸幕府は1/7を人日、3/3を上巳、5/5を端午、7/7を七夕(しちせき)、そして五節句の締めくくり、「菊の節句」と呼ばれる重陽の節句が9/9。中国では、菊の花は香りが高く、気品があるので長寿をもたらし邪気を祓うとされていることから、この日に菊酒（酒にキクの花をひたしたもの）を飲んだり、高い山にのぼったりするという習慣があったそうです。この中国の風習が平安時代に日本に伝来し、長寿を祈って菊酒を飲み、朝露と菊の香りを含んだ『せき綿』で体を拭いて、邪気を祓って若さをねがう。現在では他の節句に比べて影がうすく、一般的には特別な行事はあまり行われていません。五節句は、「陰陽五行説」に由来するといわれていて、陰陽五行説とは、森羅万象は「陰陽」の相反するものと、「五行（木、火、土、金、水）」の５つの要素の相互作用により成り立つ、という古代中国の思想で、政治や行事、学問などのさまざまな物事に強い影響を与えてきました。そして五行の要素は、それぞれ「青、赤、黄、白、黒」の5色によっても表されています。

◉Longevity celebration◉
According to the lunar calendar, September 9th is the day for Choyo-no-sekku or longevity celebrations. From ancient times in China, odd numbers are considered to be auspicious and the double nine of Choyo is considered to be the most auspicious.
During the Edo period, five seasonal celebrations were adopted; Jinjitsu, january7, jyoshi, March 3, Tango, May 5, Shichiseki, July 7 and Choyo, September 9.
In ancient China, the chrysanthemum had a pronounced scent and was considered to be a flower of grace. It was also believed to have the power to purge evil spirits. Thus on that day there was a custom to drink ‘’kiku sake’’ and climb a high mountain.
This Chinese custom was introduced during the Heian period and people drank ‘’kiku sake’’ and wiped their body with cotton, scented chrysanthemum, to pray for longevity. Today, this seasonal celebration is less well known than others. Gosekku, the five seasonal festivals is said to originate from the ``Yin-Yang-Five-Element Theory.'' The theory of Yin-Yang and Five Elements is an ancient Chinese belief that the universe is made up of the interaction of the opposites of Yin and Yang and the Five Elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water). It has had a strong influence on various things such as politics, rituals(festivities), and academics. The five elements are also represented by five colors: blue, red, yellow, white, and black.
